You don’t have to give up salt to live a healthy lifestyle. You should always include the right kind in your healthy eating plan. You should include salt in your diet even if you have high blood pressure. Are you interested in the facts about this? When buying everyday products, compare the nutritional information on food packaging. You can reduce your salt intake by paying attention to labels and choosing pizza, ketchup or cereals with less salt. When shopping, try to check and replace one food item a week.

Choose low-salt and smokeless bacon. Canned meat and fish can be high in salt, so try to eat less.

Buy canned vegetables without added salt. The same goes for canned pulses.

Pay attention to the salt content of ready-made pasta sauces. Tomato sauces generally contain less salt than sauces made with cheese sauce, olives, bacon, or ham.

For a healthy snack, choose fruits and vegetables such as carrots and celery. If you want chips or crackers, check the label and choose chips with less salt. Don’t forget to check the fat and sugar content.

Avoid food sauces such as soy sauce, mustard, pickles, mayonnaise, etc., as they are high in salt.

Cook With Less Salt

Many people add salt when cooking. However, there are many ways to season food without using salt.

Eating out: A note on salt

If you eat out at restaurants or cafes or order take-out, you can also reduce your salt intake by choosing foods with low salt content.

Pizza: opt for vegetable or chicken toppings instead of pepperoni, bacon, and extra cheese.

Pasta dishes: instead of bacon, cheese, and sausage, opt for tomato sauce with vegetables or chicken.

Burgers: avoid salty side dishes such as bacon, cheese, and barbecue sauce and opt for a salad instead.

Chinese and Indian food: opt for plain rice. It has less salt than pilau or egg rice.

Sandwiches: instead of ham or cheddar cheese, choose toppings such as chicken, eggs, or mozzarella cheese, or vegetables such as avocado or roasted peppers. Instead of pickles and mustard, which are high in salt, try low-fat salads and mayonnaise.

Breakfast: If you eat meat, have ham or sausage, but not both.

Salad: ask for dressing or sauce on the side so you can have just what you need. Some dressings and sauces are high in salt and fat.

Water-soluble vitamins, pain relievers, and medicines for indigestion.

If you regularly take water-soluble vitamins, spleen vitamins, painkillers, or medications for digestive disorders, be aware that they may contain high salt content.

You may want to consider substituting insoluble tablets, especially if you are advised to control or reduce salt intake.
